Though they may seem mundane today, line breaks weren't always available for use on Twitter. Implemented into Twitter in early 2013, line breaks have been celebrated and embraced by the site's user-base ever since. And for good reason: Though they may be simple, line breaks are one of the most useful tools available when drafting tweets, whether you're tweeting on a personal account or a business-focused one. They offer you the freedom to separate two ideas in a single tweet, create a list, or format text in more visually-appealing ways. Using a line break on Twitter is easy, whether you're doing so on the desktop site, on mobile, or within the official Twitter app.

Adding a Line Break in Twitter

At its most basic, a line break is just a line of blank space between two lines of text. Adding a line break in Twitter, then, is as easy as tapping the "Enter" or "Return" key twice while composing a tweet, whether you're using a physical keyboard on a desktop or laptop computer or typing on a smartphone or tablet's touchscreen keyboard. Once you've entered text, tap the key twice and continue writing, and you'll have inserted a line break into your tweet. You can then click the "Send Tweet" button when you've finished writing – your line breaks will be visible from there.

Line Breaks and Twitter Bios

While line breaks can be inserted freely into tweets, Twitter does not currently allow you to insert line breaks into your Twitter bio. However, much like how an Instagram bio space can be modified, it is possible to get around this limit: to do this, simply paste the characters " " into the text box while editing your bio. These characters will create a large space – pasting the characters back-to-back enough times will create a line break. They will count against the character limit for the bio, however.

iPhone Tweeting Issues

While it is rare today, depending on your iPhone's keyboard settings and iOS version, you may find yourself in a position where there is no "Return" button on the Twitter app. If this is the case, the key on your virtual keyboard may have moved: most often, you will be able to locate it by tapping the "123" button on the iPhone keyboard, at which point the "Return" key should become visible again. You will then be able to tap it twice to add a line break, as normal.
