How to Bypass an Internet Filter With CMD

You can bypass an Internet filter by using the built-in command prompt, or CMD, on Windows computers. Many Web administrators may blocks sites based on the sites' names. However, each site also has a corresponding IP address that may not be blocked. Use the CMD prompt to determine the IP address of the website and get around an Internet filter.

Step 1

Click "Start," type "CMD" in the Search box and press "Enter." The Command Prompt launches.

Type "ping" followed by the name of the website you wish to access. For example, type "ping www.sitename.com," replacing "www.sitename.com" with the name of the site, and press "Enter." The IP address of the website appears in the format of "http://72.14.218.86."

Step 3

Launch a Web browser.

Step 4

Type the IP address from Step 2 in the address bar of the browser and press "Enter." The website appears, bypassing the Internet filter on the computer you are using.
