Apple first released FaceTime as video chatting software exclusively for the iPhone 4 and iPod touch but has since developed versions for both Mac OS X and the iPad 2. This upgrade means that you can now place FaceTime calls to emails along with phone numbers, as long as the receiving person has the desktop or mobile version of the app. Unfortunately, FaceTime's original number-only format makes it slightly confusing to call an email address.
Step 1
Open FaceTime on your Mac, iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

Step 2
Click or tap the "Contacts" icon in the toolbar at the bottom.
Step 3
Click or tap to select a contact that uses an email account with FaceTime. Email accounts with FaceTime are most often the same as those used with an Apple ID. Tap the "+" icon to add a contact on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. To add a new contact on your Mac, open your "Applications" folder, open Address Book and then click the "+" sign at the bottom of the center column.
Step 4
Click or tap the email address to place your call.
