From Superman to the Powerpuff Girls to The Thing, comic book characters are as varied as the colorfully vivid situations their artists and creators put them in. However, there's usually one commonality to most comic books: the text that appears in the bubbles or areas above the character's heads and throughout the panels. The bold lettering is instantly recognizable, and you can create something similar using Microsoft Word. Even if you're not using one of Word's drawing tools to design actual comics, make text into comic book-style lettering.
Step 1
Launch Microsoft Word. If you already have a typed document to transform into comic book-style lettering, click the "File" menu. Click "Open." Browse to the Word document and double-click it, then scroll to the section of text to change.

Step 2
Type the text to make into comic book style onto a new Word document if you don't already have one. Word opens a new blank document when you start the software, so use whatever default font -- usually 12 point Times New Roman -- appears as you type. Skip this step if you opened an existing document.
Step 3
Highlight all of the text to change to comic book style. Right-click the highlighted text and select "Font."
Step 4
Scroll through the "Font" list in the window's upper-left corner to "Comic Sans MS" and click the font. Note the change to the "Preview" window at the bottom.
Step 5
Click the "Italic" option under "Font style." Check the "All caps" check box. Both of these are optional, but keep more in line with the traditional comic book lettering look.
Step 6
Click the "OK" button to close the window and return to the changed document with text that looks like comic book-style text.
