Pinging is an operation where you send a packet of information from your computer to a computer on the Internet to see whether the remote machine replies. This can be used to determine connection speed, connection lag and whether the remote computer is online. This method can be used to check Google's servers to see if you are able to access Google.com.

Open your Start Menu.

Click "All Programs"; then open "Accessories." Click "Command Prompt."

Step 3

Type "ping www.google.com" into the command prompt window.
